Newsletter
Summit Township publishes a
quarterly community newsletter, titled "News from the Summit".
The newsletter contains a wide range of information on the Summit
community, including: staff,
meeting schedules, services,
events,
recycling, recreational programs, history, local non-profit organizations,
schools, churches and senior center happenings. It also contains
information from the Supervisors, Water Authority, Sewer Authority,
District Justice and Tax Collector, as well as a column titled "Here
We Grow Again" which updates residents on new community
businesses and residential developments.
The newsletter is published in February, May, August and November.
Copies are mailed to all Township residences and businesses by the 15th
day of these months. Information to be included must be submitted
to the Township no later than the 20th day of the month preceding
publication. No paid advertisements or political submittals are accepted.
Extra copies of the newsletter are available for pick-up at the Municipal Building.
Community Events
Two community events
currently take place each year in Summit Township: Spring Clean-up
and the Summit Senior Citizens' Picnic.
Spring Clean-up is held for Township residents in May of each
year. Items are accepted at the Municipal Garage for a one week
period (Monday - Saturday). Residents are notified of the details
(dates, times, items accepted etc.) via the Township newsletter.
Summit Senior Citizen Picnic takes place on the second Thursday of
August each year at Summit's beautiful Picnicana Park. This day-long
event is free to Summit Seniors (55 and older) and includes a Chinese
Auction, craft classes,
musical entertainment, bingo, demonstrations, prizes, a chicken barbecue
lunch, "build-your-own" ice cream sundae, and hot dog supper. Each resident senior in attendance may
bring one non-resident guest at a nominal fee. Reservations are
required with reservation forms and information being provided in the May
newsletter.
Summit Senior Center
The Summit Senior Center,
located at 1450 Townhall Road, opened in December 1994. A fine
community spirit, donations from individuals, private business and State
Representative, Tom Scrimenti, made the vision a reality. The center
welcomes all senior citizens, age 55 and over, to enjoy the many
activities at this facility. Crafts, cards, dancing, pool tables,
exercise, informational and health sessions, luncheon meetings and parties
create a great place for seniors to get together.
