can also use your own container but it must be clearly marked as 'RECYCLABLES'.
The following items are eligible in Summit for recycling:

- Plastic (#1 and #2)

newspapers littering the township. Plastic bags CANNOT
be used.
- Magazines - bundle (tie
with string, twine, etc.) and place on top of recycling
container. Magazines may also be placed in a brown paper
grocery bag.
| NOTE: |

|
| Pick-ups
are every-other week. Have the bin out to the curb by 5:30AM
on your scheduled pick-up day. Weeks with a HOLIDAY
(observed by Waste Management) will cause both pick-up days to be
one day later. |

Newsletter
Summit Township publishes a
quarterly community newsletter, titled "News from the Summit".
The newsletter contains a wide range of information on the Summit
community, including: staff,
meeting schedules, services,
events,
recycling, recreational programs, history, local non-profit organizations,
schools, churches and senior center happenings. It also contains
information from the Supervisors, Water Authority, Sewer Authority,
District Justice and Tax Collector, as well as a column titled "Here
We Grow Again" which updates residents on new community
businesses and residential developments.
The newsletter is published in February, May, August and November.
Copies are mailed to all Township residences and businesses by the 15th
day of these months. Information to be included must be submitted
to the Township no later than the 20th day of the month preceding
publication. No paid advertisements or political submittals are accepted.
Extra copies of the newsletter are available for pick-up at the Municipal Building.
Community Events
Three community events
currently take place each year in Summit Township: Spring Clean-up,
Summit Community Flea Market and Summit Senior Citizens' Picnic.
Spring Clean-up is held for Township residents in May of each
year. Items are accepted at the Municipal Garage for a one week
period (Monday - Saturday). Residents are notified of the details
(dates, times, items accepted etc.) via the Township newsletter.
Summit Community Flea Market is held on the third Saturday of June
at Perry HI-Way Hose Company. The event is well advertised by the
Township as a means for Township residents to recycle unwanted items
instead of throwing them away. Admission to the buying public is
free, while vendors pay a $5.00 fee to defray costs. (Only Township
residents may sign-up as vendors.) Local non-profit organizations
are not required to pay the $5.00 fee. Advance registration is
required for vendors and information regarding the flea market is provided
via the Township newsletter in May.
Summit Senior Citizen Picnic takes place on the second Thursday of
August each year at Summit's beautiful Picnicana Park. This day-long
event is free to Summit Seniors (55 and older) and includes craft classes,
musical entertainment, bingo, demonstrations, prizes, a chicken barbecue
lunch and hot dog supper. Each resident senior in attendance may
bring one non-resident guest at a nominal fee. Reservations are
required with reservation forms and information being provided in the May
newsletter.
Summit Senior Center
The Summit Senior Center,
located at 1450 Townhall Road,
opened in
December 1994. A fine
community spirit, donations from individuals, private business and State
Representative, Tom Scrimenti, made the vision a reality. The center
welcomes all senior citizens, age 55 and over, to enjoy the many
activities at this facility. Crafts, cards, dancing, pool tables,
exercise, informational and health sessions, luncheon meetings and parties
create a great place for seniors to get together.
