Summit Township is governed
by an elected body organized under the Second Class Township Code of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. That Board is called the Board of
Supervisors and consists of three (3) elected officials, each serving a
six (6) year term. Each
Supervisor has designated areas of
responsibilities for specific services within the Township and is
available daily.
The Board of Supervisors is charged with the general government of the Township to secure the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the Community. To accomplish that task the Board adopts laws, known as ordinances, that governs various activities within the Township. The Board is restricted in areas in which it can exercise control by both the Second Class Township Code and various other laws of the Commonwealth.
The Board of Supervisors meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:30PM and the third Monday at 4:30PM to conduct business on behalf of the Township. All meetings of the Board are open to the public with an opportunity at each meeting for public comment. Recreation Board
The Recreation Board presents recommendations regarding the programs content, physical properties, staffing and equipment requirements to the Board of Supervisors. The Recreation Board meets the third Wednesday of every month at 5:00PM. Sewer Authority
The Summit Township Sewer Authority is an Operating Authority which provides municipal sanitary sewer to designated Summit Township residents. The Sewer Authority meets the last Thursday of every month at 5:00PM at the Sewer Authority Building. Water Authority
The Summit Township Water Authority is an Operating Authority which provides municipal water to designated Summit Township residents. The Water Authority meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30PM. Planning Commission
The Summit Township Planning Commission is an advisory board responsible for reviewing subdivision and land development plans prior to submission to Board of Supervisors as well as ruling on alternate greenspace plans. The Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of each month at 7:30PM. Zoning Hearing Board
The purpose of the Zoning Hearing Board is to consider appeals, challenges, variances and special exceptions from provisions of the Summit Township Zoning Ordinance. The Board holds public hearings as needed on the third Monday of the month at 7:30PM. Board of Auditors
The Board of Auditors audit, settle and adjust the accounts of all elected or appointed officials of the township and its boards or agencies that received or disbursed funds of or owing to the township during the immediately preceding calendar year. The Board of Auditors shall determine the compensation for the current year for supervisors employed by the township. Vacancy Board
